MISSION
The mission of each NGO in this operation is to assess the situation on the ground with the goal of formulating a service delivery plan, which is in line with each respective NGOs sector, by the conclusion of the weekend.
The current operation is designed to assess the needs of the refugees that have recently flooded into camps along the Sudan-Chad border. Local refugee populations have migrated recently due to rebel activity and due to worsening drought conditions. Sources fleeing the area also say they have heard reports of new camps popping up in more remote locations.
Your mission as an NGO team member is to assist this displaced population by relaying information to your Team Leader and Cluster Lead that will be used to report directly to the UN. Data must be gathered in the field on not only the number of displaced persons but on what their age/gender breakdown is, what diseases are present, what has caused death, how much drinkable water is available, how safe the camps are, etc. It is only with accurate information that appropriate aid can be planned for the region.
It is a good idea to ask questions of the refugees and local camp directors that you come into contact with as they have their ears to the ground and hear more from refugees than you will. If somebody speaks of a lost village, they may be speaking of a camp that has not been placed on one of our maps yet.
A number of NGO's are coordinating efforts in this operation. Following is a listing of the primary NGO's and information about each NGO's mission.
Our mission is to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world. Drawing strength from our global diversity, resources and experience, we promote innovative solutions and are advocates for global responsibility. We facilitate lasting change by strengthening capacity for self-help, providing economic opportunity, delivering relief in emergencies, influencing policy decisions at all levels and addressing discrimination in all its forms. Guided by the aspirations of local communities, we pursue our mission with both excellence and compassion because the people whom we serve deserve nothing less.
